What type of shoes should I wear daily?

Some shoes do the exact opposite of what shoes should do, causing serious problems rather than supporting and cushioning the foot.High heels, flip flops and sandals, and high-top shoes and boots can all cause problems with your feet and ankles.

We strongly advise that most women not wear high-heeled shoes, especially not routinely, because these shoes encourage foot deformities to develop and can lead to painful symptoms in the ankle, calf, and lower back. However, there are some women whose feet fit extremely well into high heels and who actually do poorly with low heels or flat shoes, for example, women whose feet have very high arches

Flip fops and many sandals present a wide range of problems for feet. They lack arch support, which can cause pain in various joints and tendons;they don't provide protection from fallen objects; and they expose the top of the foot to the sun, which increases the chance of developing skin cancer.Injuries to the foot can occur by getting a loose sandal caught when getting on and off elevators and escalators, and even by opening a door across the tops of one's own toes. Walking in flip flops requires the toes to grasp the

shoe for balance and to keep the shoe on, making the toes work more than they do in a shoe with a heel counter. The toes are also more likely to be stubbed. Last, a strap between the big toe and second toe can create an open wound and infection.

High-top shoes or boots can also create a number of problems. If they're too tight, they can irritate nerves close to the skin surface and cause a nerve condition called neuritis. Many Ugg boots, work boots, and western boot shave poor arch support and little or no cushioning. For people with a condition known as Haglund's deformity, which is a bony outgrowth at the back of the heel, wearing high-top shoes and boots is painful and can lead to a bursitis.
